Here is a knowledge base article designed for your organization's internal documentation.
Applies to: All Google Workspace End Users
Are you using a Single Sign-On (SSO) provider? If your organization uses a third-party identity provider (such as Okta, OneLogin, or Microsoft Azure AD) to log in to Google, you cannot change your password through Google settings. You must change it through your specific SSO dashboard.
If you see a Google login screen: Follow the instructions below.
If you are redirected to another company portal: Please contact your IT Helpdesk for specific instructions.
Follow these steps to update your password through the Google Account management portal.
Access Your Google Account
Alternatively, from any Google app (Gmail, Drive, etc.), click your Profile Picture in the top right corner and select Manage your Google Account.
Navigate to Security Settings
On the left-hand navigation panel, click on Security.
Initiate Password Change
Scroll down to the section labeled How you sign in to Google.
Click on Password.
Note: You may see a "Last changed" timestamp here.
Verify Your Identity
For security purposes, you will be prompted to enter your current password again.
Enter your password and click Next.
Create Your New Password
Enter your new password in the New password field.
Enter it again in the Confirm new password field.
Tip: A strong password should be at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Finalize Changes
Click the Change Password button.
You will receive a confirmation message, and you may be signed out of your account on other devices.
If the "Password" option is missing under the Security tab, your organization's administrator has likely disabled the ability for users to change passwords directly, or you are restricted to using an SSO provider (see the "Important" section above).
If you cannot remember your current password to sign in:
Go to the Google Sign-in page.
Enter your email address.
Click Forgot password? and follow the recovery steps.
Note: If your administrator has disabled account recovery, you must contact your IT Administrator to reset the password for you.
Don't Reuse Passwords: Never use your Workspace password for personal accounts (e.g., Facebook, personal Gmail).
Enable 2-Step Verification: If you haven't already, enable 2-Step Verification in the Security tab to add an extra layer of protection.
Log Out of Public Devices: Always sign out completely when using a shared computer.
